Magellan and Greyhound | Fire Island Lighthouse Tour, History and National Seashore @MagellanandGreyhound | Uploaded May 2021 | Updated October 2024, 21 minutes ago.
Fire Island National Seashore in New York is about 26 miles long and is one of four barrier islands protecting Long Island. On the western end is the Fire Island Lighthouse, near Robert Moses State Park, the tallest lighthouse on Long Island and the first thing a ship would see when coming across the Atlantic Ocean from Europe into the area. Take that Montauk Point! We're not only going to take you right up to the top of the lighthouse and give you a brief history, but we will also tour the area as well with a brief hike along the beautiful Fire Island National Seashore. We'll also show you the original lighthouse lens and the boathouse where you can see a lifesaving exhibit and a large whale skull. If you ever decide to go to this wonderful National Park Service unit, hopefully you will have enough clear skies and low haze to see the Manhattan skyline to the west. This is definitely one of the cooler lighthouses we have been to and we hope you enjoy this video. We have camped out on the seashore before and hope to make a video this summer of more of our excursions there.
