Known for its scenic panoramic views of the Tinker Cliffs as well as the Roanoke and Catawba Valleys, and for being the most photographed point on the Appalachian Trail, the McAfee Knob hike is a little over 8 miles in distance round trip and is located on Catawba Mountain near Roanoke, Virginia. We would have loved to have seen this place at sunrise or sunset. The trail itself is moderately difficult, despite its elevation gain, due to the length of the total hike. Bring some lunch, or breakfast, or dinner. It's a nice place to enjoy food.

This is the third episode of our Appalachian Mountain series where we took a two week road trip from Shenandoah National Park down the Blue Ridge Parkway and explored the Great Smoky Mountains.
