Some characters show up fully formed. Maxx wasn’t one of them.

This time-lapse captures the back-and-forth, the messy middle, the endless erasing, redrawing, and rethinking that comes with designing a character who actually feels alive. Every layer tells a story—sketch lines ghosting underneath final details, half-formed ideas getting scrapped, bold choices getting reworked.

But before Maxx can move, emote, or exist in 3D, his shape has to be solid. This T-pose study locks in his proportions, silhouette, and structure, making sure his design translates cleanly from 2D to 3D.

He’s a mosaic axolotl, unpredictable by nature, and somehow that made finding his final look even more of a challenge. But after all the overlays and do-overs—this is him. This is Maxx.

Still not sure if he’s more hero or troublemaker. Probably both. There is always good trouble... ;)
