I always hesitate with classics. On one side, I know many people want to hear my interpretations of some of the staple video game songs, but it's so intimidating and I hate that feeling of having done a song so long ago, that I'm afraid of being down the line wishing I had done it differently. That being said, with Final Fantasy VII Remake just in a few days, it's hard to argue a better time to tackle one of the greatest battle themes of all time with all the hype I have to play the new remake!
I really tried to make this one different and give it a true battle feel with really big horns and snare ensembles, in a way I thought would serve the intensity the song. Recently I took a dive into Spitfire for new orchestra VSTs and I'm amazed at how good they sound on their own that I was challenged to make them fit with my fairly processed sound. I hope you guys enjoy what I did with it and I hope it sets it apart from the millions of other guitar covers of this song.

I was really happy to see all of the excitment for You Will Know Our Names when I released that cover, because it made me realize just how many of you guys have been waiting for Xenoblade covers! Ive done a bunch in the past for medleys, but never gave them the full cover treatment. This song is probably one of the greatest overworld themes of all time. I never got to give a take on the last bits of the song and always had a good idea of what Id do with it. Im also a huge sucker for the chord that the chorus opens up on so it was really fun going all in on this.
One thing I thought was particularly interesting about the shoot is that because of the two tone of the Arctic Dream Majesty guitar, it looks like I have two seperate guitars for leads, but thats the same guitar just from a different angle! Really happy to have that guitar back so that the guitar John Petrucci gave me can remain safe in my studio.
A lot of people on my streams have been asking why I dont do medleys as much any more and why Im doing full songs like this of ones Ive done before. Medleys are usually impossible to license for distribution on stores like Spotify and iTunes, and since thats a big source of my income, I cant justify all of that work for a song I wont make nearly as much on unfortunately. It takes almost 4 times as long to make a full medley than a single song cover like this one. Plus, I always get comments from people saying they want a full cover of specific songs on all the medleys I do, so Im just kind of assuming this era of FamilyJules is more or less dedicated to those requests! Thank you all so much for watching and I hope youre really feeling it!

Everytime I cover something from Danganronpa and sometimes even on songs that arent Danganronpa, I get comments demanding I cover Scrum Debate from V3. I finished V3 about a month after it came out and even still I find myself thinking about the ending, the characters, and the story to this day... But the one thing that puzzled me most of all is how to make Scrum Debate, an epic yet fairly repetitive electronic bop, into an enticing metal cover. I found myself coming to the conclusion it wasnt possible so I usually just told people not to expect it.
This week I just decided to do it. Even if it didnt sound good, I wanted to at least try it. It got me to break out my Digitech Whammy Pedal again to take on those crazy synth lines and also got me to try my hand at incorperating 808 kicks like I did way back in my Winterbliss cover from Castle Crashers. Even with all that and putting in a wacky solo, I still found myself worrying it wouldnt work. Adriana took a listen and told me, not every song has to be attention grabbing at every moment, sometimes a song just has to be a vibe. So I hope thats what this cover is for you guys. A vibe.

I asked my twitch chat a few weeks ago that if I were to do a Pico cover, who would play Pico. My chat pretty much listed everyone and I realized that while I had this song stuck in my head and was really pumped to do a cover of it, it had to be me.
Ive known for a very long time how to do shots with multiple of myself in them, but havent found a situation to use it that I thought could be cool until now. My brother is in town and helped me really plan out something interesting and fun for this one. We planned out the shots and it ended up looking really cool in the end.
I was floored also at how close I was able to get to Picos voice with just an 8 string guitar and a wah pedal. I originally thought about picking up a talk box or something to get the effect, but I really wanted to first try getting the effect in the same vein as the other FNF covers and I think it ended up working out really well this way. Hope you enjoy!

I first discovered Black Desert Online back when it released when I saw a video of someone recreating Emma Watson in its absolutely stunning character creator that holds up more than five years later. I remember spending 10 hours in the character creator alone that I was so tired when I finally got around to playing it, that I didnt even have the energy that night to get through the tutorial. It was clear to me that this game was something else and though its not been at the absolute forefront of MMORPGs since, the game has an amazing community and player base that keeps it alive.
I was approached from the company to make a cover from the OST and they brought my attention to this track. I thought it was absolutely slamming and I couldnt wait to dig in. Contrary to my previous feelings on covering already metal songs in games, I have come to absolutely love playing songs from games that are made with the guitar in mind rather than keyboard or even just clicked in by mouse. It not only makes it easier to lay down and wrap my fingers around, but lets me work on my practical metal guitar chops and also metal production in an environment the song is inherently built for.
