Super Mario 64 is one of my all time fave games, and one that I replay the most. I've had it on my list to do more piano versions of my VGM covers, and File Select has been on that list for YEARS. I've also had many people ask me to release my original File Select Medley with percussion and vocals on streaming platforms for.. YEARS! I finally went through all of my hard drives to find it, improve the mix a bit, and create this piano version. It was nostalgia on top of nostalgia to create this version, and I'm really glad to have got this out there. P.S.: We miss you Booey the dog.
Today both of these versions have been released everywhere. The links are up top.
In this medley, I wanted to capture the vibe you get when you hear File Select. The vibe is: "You are about to have FUN." So I put in references to the levels you will play (plus rainbow road for fun). Something cool is that the left hand chord progression stays the same the entire time and I rework the other SM64 songs to fit within the File Select chord progression. I love to reharmonize songs to fit into other songs and create medleys this way.
You can hear me play this song live as well as ALL my other VGM releases on my twitch channel. That's where the party's at - 2.5 hours a day, 4 days a week! I stream it all here on youtube too so subscribe!!! but the main chat and party is here:
