GarlandTheGreat | FFVII - Solo Rotating Character No EXP Challenge, Part 40: Special Battle @GarlandTheGreat | Uploaded May 2023 | Updated October 2024, 4 hours ago.
This is much more dangerous than the regular battle, so you can't just spam one attack. Only Cloud can do this and his HP is roughly half of Yuffie's. You need to equip the Ziedrich and set yourself up with four Hero Drinks to reduce damage as much as possible. With the Ziedrich, you only get 8 materia slots, so I went with 2x HP Plus, 2x Magic Plus, W-Item, Mime and HP Absorb=Comet. Most of the enemies can be poisoned and put to sleep with Cauldron, but that doesn't mean it's easy. Here's how it should go down:
Sea Worm: Cauldron, then set yourself up with a Vaccine and four Hero Drinks. Then two Comets will take care of him.
Ho-chu: Mime the Comet. It will one-shot him unless it misses.
Unknown 3: This guy is dangerous and has a lot of HP, so use a Cauldron ASAP. This will put him to sleep, but he will wake up before you can finish him off. You can survive all his attacks, so putting him to sleep is done only in case any of the Comets miss.
Serpent: High MDef and a lot of HP, so toss a Cauldron and unleash Omnislash. That comment about Cloud not getting to use his ultimate weapon didn't age well, eh?
Wolfmeister: If the Serpent's last attack hadn't missed, I would have been dead from that first attack. You can prevent this from happening by tossing another Cauldron after Omnislash and finishing him off with Comets. Since this guy is that dangerous, it's Cauldron time again.
Behemoth: This is the most dangerous enemy here, since he will counter all magical attacks with Flare and it will absolutely destroy you. Thankfully, he can be put to sleep. Otherwise, you'd have to wait for another limit break and Omnislash him.
Maximum Kimaira: One Comet does the trick. Apparently, he can use Freeze, but I don't think I've ever seen it.
Proud Clod: Thanks to his 120k HP and high MDef, this takes longer than all the other battles combined, so I sped it up. Make sure you have Mime selected, then put a wrench on the action button and come back ten minutes later. By then, he should be dead unless you get a bad combo of critical machine guns and missed Comets. Opening with Cauldron and an Elixir was completely pointless and I have no idea why I did it.
As for the handicaps, I got mostly favorable ones. As you can see, the Vaccine won't protect against them, but it will make poison do 0 damage. The reward for doing this is the Final Attack Materia, so now we can finally go beat Ruby and Emerald.
