First of all, just so you know, I have given the simulation software a name. It is called "FerroBright" (www.ferrobright.com).This is in the spirit of a toy I used to play with as a kid called LightBright. What we are doing here is actually not that much different. In LightBright, each hole in the "field of view" is assigned a colour depending on which LED you place in each hole. In FerroBright, each pixel in the "field of view" is assigned a colour based on whether the observer can see the reflected light, or not. In both LightBright and FerroBright, the set of coloured pixels creates a beautiful "light" display.

Aside from the pretty colours (which I love) this picture contains a lot of information. For example, from looking at this picture alone, one should be able to guess where the poles are and distinguish the poles from "each other". No, I am not saying that you can tell North from South. What I am saying is, if you pick one pole as North, you should be able to label all the other poles, based in this picture. Give it a try.
