This fawn was "rescued" by a well-meaning park visitor, who probably didn't realize that mom was nearby. It is normal to find very young fawns curled up alone - at this age they have very little scent, and this along with their camouflage to look like a sun-dappled forest floor is their protection from predators. Mom stays away except for brief feedings to avoid attracting attention to her baby, until it is strong enough to follow her.
Even though this baby had been handled by humans, mom would have taken him back, but unfortunately he was dropped off without any information on where he came from, or a way to contact his rescuer. He's staying with me overnight until I can get him to a wildlife rehabber better equipped to take care of him - with lots of other fawns so he doesn't get too imprinted on humans. Since he hadn't eaten since yesterday he was pretty hungry! This is one of three bottles that he guzzled down.
