Hungarian pianist and composer Bela Bartok was born in 1881. Along with Franz Liszt, he is considered one of Hungary's two most important composers. He is also recognized as one of the great composers worldwide of the 20th century. He was devoted to folk music and it shows in much of his work. He left Hungary after the 1919 Revolution, and later, during the 1940 Nazi occupation of World War II, emigrated to the United States. He was diagnosed with leukemia in 1944, and died in a hospital in 1945. He was 64. Music is his "Romanian Dances."
