Charles Buchinskas (or Charles Bronson as he was known in Hollywood) was born in Pennsylvania in 1921. He made a pile of good films in the U.S. through the 60s, then went to Europe and made several more, widening his appeal. Then came the Death Wish series, where he took a gun and prowled New York, Chicago, etc. gunning down bad guys. I was living in New York at the time, as frightened of subways as anyone, and I was amazed to hear the audience cheering wildly when he gunned down his first thug. It made me be nice to New Yorkers from then on. Bronson died in 2003, at the age of 81. To honor this tough guy, I've chosen the fourth movement from Beethoven's "Symphony No. 6 in F Major, Op. 68," known as "The Storm" or "Thunderstorm."
