John Philip Sousa is an American original, a composer and conductor known for his American military and patriotic marches. Called the "March King of the World," he was born in 1854 and joined the United States Marine Band as an apprentice in 1868. He left the band in 1875, learned to conduct, and eventually came back to the band as leader. He later formed his own band, and joined World War I as a Lieutenant Commander leading the Naval Reserve Band in Illinois. After the war,. he returned to his own band until his death in 1932. Music is by the Marine Corps Band plying Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever," followed by "The Washington Post" march.
