Two people, believed to be a father and son, were killed after they were trapped in a two-storey house which caught fire near Sekolah Kebangsaan Tok Jembal early today.
The victims were a man and a boy, while a woman managed to escape the blaze.
Kuala Nerus Fire and Rescue Station chief Azmi Omar said the department received an emergency call at 2.49am and arrived at the scene nine minutes later.
He said that upon arrival at 2.58am, they found the 40-by-50-foot semi-permanent, two-storey house about 70 per cent engulfed in flames.
Firefighters from the Kuala Nerus and Kuala Terengganu stations mounted firefighting and rescue operations.
