An original composition made using synthesizer instrumentation to replicate the sound chips of the Sega Genesis gaming console (not perfectly, sadly... but I'll get there!). More specifically, a composition directly inspired by the Sonic the Hedgehog series- a fan piece, if you will.
The imagined setting and theme for the level would be the inner-workings of a large, flying battleship. Something attune to The Flying Battery or the Death Egg, perhaps?
The level would feature many machinery-based hazards (particularly moving pistons, as the name implies) that would pulse in synchronization with the music bed- thin pistons that pulse up and down with every single beat, medium sized pistons that pulse on every other beat (up on beat 1, down on beat 3) and larger pistons that would pulse up and down on every other measure.
This zone would require Sonic to navigate his way through the humongous engine with timing and precision, in order to avoid being crushed by the many moving parts.
