Part 5 of 6 for a multi-staged, event progression zone for a now-shelved Sonic fan game. Each tune in the series is a different arrangement and style of the same base theme.
Caverns takes place within its namesake- a cavern system deep within the mountain currently being ascended. Through means of seeking shelter, or by falling in accidentally, the player now continues their climb from within the mountain's innards; a drippy, crystaline-frozen cave system spiralling upwards towards the peak. The initial level concept for this section may have involved a forgotten shrine or temple. As such, instrumentation was chosen to be moody and mysterious, such as the with the jazzy saxophone- but also nostalgic and somewhat melancholy to depict an area lost to time and the elements, no forgotten- as meant to be depicted by the bells and music box. The intro sax part is a motif reference to Sonic CD's Quartz Quadrant, as there were plans to tie into some CD elements in the fan game.
Hope you enjoy, and thank you for listening!
