By popular request, this video shows how to set up off-safe fully automatic Sugar Cane. This is a follow up to the Bamboo video, and shows how to fit the water into the build needed for the Sugar Cane to be planted. This build is directional, meaning that the zero-ticking sticky-pistons must be facing East and West. If they are facing North and South they will not work properly. This build also features an optimized clock to harvest the sugar cane as soon as it grows, without firing to fast causing unnecessary lag and slowing down the growth by blocking attempts. Each Sugar Cane plant will produce 1,800 per hour, helpfully delivered into a water stream so you can take it wherever you want. you can store it in chests to be converted to paper for trades and books, or sugar for potions and crafting. You can also funnel it directly into a composter to make bone meal. If you are going huge, make sure to stick around toward the end where I show a lag optimized build out

For slightly more technical players... Shaky-Sand is referred to as "faster than zero tick" based on the number of forced updates they cause. These crops grow based on random ticks, with a block getting on average one random tick every 68.27 seconds or ~53 times per hour. 'Normal' Zero-Ticking a crop 'tricks' the game into hitting the crop with 12,000 random ticks per hour. That is why a Zero-Ticking a Cactus causes it to grow ~750 times per hour. The "~" is because normal random ticks will increase that slightly. Shaky-Sand (or Quantum-Ticking) tricks the game into generating 36,000 random updates per hour; three times as many as Zero-Ticking, meaning if you could harvest perfectly (which is only possible with Cactus) it would grow three times as fast.

If you watched my Omega Cactus video (youtube.com/watch?v=Jkzrbk9Fz3U), you will know that it is possible to stack forced updates up to a maximum of 72,000 per hour (once per game tick, as Minecraft runs at 20 ticks per second). As such, it is possible with precise timing to stack six Zero-Ticks on the same crop which would then be faster than the Shaky-Sand, as that would be updating the crop 72,000 times per hour. It is also possible to combine Shaky-Sand and Zero-Ticking which would be faster than either alone.

It should be noted that depending on the crop, there are extreme diminishing returns stacking up the forced updates. The Bamboo, for example, is trying to grow 12,000 times per hour from the Shaky-Sand, but the rate of the last video was ~6,600 per hour. That is because the harvesting action itself blocks some growth attempts, and your harvesting system/speed has to be such that you can collect the crops automatically. You can set up one Bamboo to get close to those rates with manual harvesting, but it makes much more sense to make the smaller, tillable, more resource friendly ~6.6k version which you can fit more of in the same space meaning even though it is a lower-per-crop yield, the overall farm will produce more crops in a smaller area with less impact on your world.
