I’m late to this one, but I finally had a chance to run in the Cloudsurfer Next. My daughter wanted someone to pace her for a fartlek before cross country season starts next week.

The Cloudsurfer Next was pretty nice for a fartlek that was between easy and moderate efforts for me. The simplest way I can describe the shoe is that it’s like a thinner version of the Cloudsurfer 1 midsole with the Cloud Eclipse upper. The shoe is probably the most neutral On shoe I’ve ever run in. It’s good for shorter somewhat faster runs and was quite nice on the treadmill.

Going into this test, I thought that the Cloudsurfer Next was supposed to be a tempo version of the Cloudsurfer. And maybe that’s what On is trying to do. I’m just not sure it’s quite there though.

I’d say that this is a good option for runners who want a very neutral option for shorter daily runs or for runners with very strong ankles.
