At the minute, approximately 62% of Irish beef production is coming from dairy beef origin.

Research at Teagasc has shown that sourcing calves with high CBV versus low CBV are leading to more profitable systems, an earlier finishing age and higher finishing carcass weights.

At Johnstown Castle, they are currently working on the dairy beef heifer production systems with a particular focus on animal maturity level and pasture type.
