#68. Q: Should lapel width match tie width?
No. Don’t choose ties which are too narrow or too wide. We are not interested in following retailer directed fashion trends, because we are concentrating on classic style. A simple measure is to check whether the tie width matches the lapel width. Double breasted suits have a broader lapel than single breasted suits, so they can take a wider tie. Really narrow ties are way too “fashion first” casual and do not make us look professional.
