Falcon Works

Falcon Pot Works (also referred to as Falcon Works, Falcon Pottery) is a historic pottery site in Stoke-on-Trent. 
It’s listed as a Grade II building in the National Heritage List for England — called Falcon Pot Works in occupation of Weatherby’s. 
The establishment by J. H. Weatherby & Sons: the firm was founded in 1891, and the current factory buildings date from 1906. 
Architecture & What Remains
The works include a “squat bottle kiln” (circular in plan) in the courtyard, with an outer hovel (a shelter-like outer structure). 
There is also a muffle kiln on-site, one of the few surviving in the area. Muffle kilns were used for certain finer decorating / enamel work. 
In more recent history, parts of the factory (hovel) collapsed. For example, the outer hovel of one updraught bottle oven collapsed in February 2012, leaving just the firing chamber. 
The works are derelict now; they are not in active pottery production.
