This conversation has moved far beyond making beats.
I'm talking about influence.
I'm talking about loyalty.
I'm talking about emotional dependency.
I'm talking about creators repeatedly using words like “brother,” “family” and “I love you,” learning intimate details about people's lives, positioning themselves as someone's protector or support system, and potentially creating an environment where followers become increasingly loyal to the person at the center of the community.
Some people online are searching for more than music-production information.
They may be searching for friendship.
They may be searching for acceptance.
They may be searching for mentorship.
They may be trying to figure out who they are.
They may simply want somewhere they feel like they belong.
That makes the relationship between a creator and their audience worth examining.
I've personally experienced a situation where I eventually began questioning the relationship and behavior I was seeing. Once I separated myself from it, I started looking at the entire situation differently.
Now I'm seeing other people independently raise concerns about some of the same types of behavior.
That is why I made this video.
I'm not asking anybody watching this to blindly accept my interpretation. I'm asking you to observe the behavior yourself.
Watch how communities are built.
Watch how disagreement is handled.
Watch how personal information is used.
Watch what happens when somebody questions the person at the center.
Watch whether loyalty to an individual gradually becomes more important than the original reason everybody supposedly came together.
And most importantly:
THINK FOR YOURSELF.
This video is commentary based on my personal observations, experiences and opinions. I'm discussing behaviors and patterns that concern me — not claiming that every supportive community, mentor, producer, livestream host or creator operates this way.
There is nothing wrong with community.
There is nothing wrong with mentorship.
There is nothing wrong with telling somebody you care about them.
The question is what happens when those things become mechanisms for CONTROL.
That's what we're discussing.
