The single-seat 230 series was built specifically for advanced and unlimited competition or display aerobatics, and has been flown with great success by some of the world's best aerobatic pilots such as Nigel Lamb, Brian Lecomber, Clint McHenry and Patty Wagstaff. Unusually for an aircraft of its type the Extra 230 features a wooden wing with Dacron covering, but in common with other aerobatic competition aircraft the 230's wing has 0° incidence for sustained inverted flight.
