This guy was a big shot in the Democratic Party, representing the greater New Orleans area in the U.S. House of Representatives for nine whopping terms.
Following a corruption investigation, Jefferson was sentenced to thirteen years in federal prison for bribery on November 13, 2009.

He filed an appeal following a decision by the United States Supreme Court on similar issues. In light of these findings, Jefferson was ordered released on October 5, 2017, pending sentencing or other action, after a U.S. District judge dismissed 7 of 10 charges against him. On December 1, 2017, Judge T. S. Ellis III accepted Jefferson's plea bargain and sentenced him to time served having spent five and a half years of his initial thirteen-year sentence in federal prison.
