John Donato Torrio. Born in 1882, Torrio was a key figure in the development of the Chicago Outfit in the early twentieth century. Known for his business acumen, he introduced a corporate structure to organized crime, focusing on cooperation over conflict.

He mentored Al Capone, who would later take over the outfit. Torrio was instrumental in the establishment of the National Crime Syndicate, which laid the groundwork for modern organized crime in America.

In 1925, after surviving an assassination attempt, Torrio retired to Italy. However, he continued to advise the outfit until his death in 1957. Torrio's influence can still be seen in the operations of organized crime today. His legacy proves that it's not always the loudest voice that makes the most impact.
