This film is a series of time-lapse photographs of solar activity recorded at the Climax observing station in 1945 and 1946. The "explosions" include such activities as solar flares, prominences, and other disturbances that occur on and above the solar surface. Produced by the High Altitude Observatory (HAO) of NCAR. This seems to be the updated version of the original HAO "Explosions on the Sun" film. The film was reprinted in the 1970s from the original negatives for improved quality, and new titles were added. (Black and white, silent.)
