Puerto Rico! San Juan! From the Castillo San Felipe del Morro, or "El Morro," to the Castillo San Cristobal, to the remnants of the once great City Wall, San Juan Puerto Rico is home to just a single National Park Site. We are venturing outside of the 50 states for the first time in this series as we roll through the multi-cultural, yet colorful past of San Juan National Historic Site. I find it so interesting that this was a sight once fired upon by the US Military as part of the defenses of a foreign adversary, yet it is now afforded some of the highest protections the United States has to offer. Nuances like that are why I love the National Park System - you really won't find another system of protected areas quite like it. Join me, as we explore the National Park Site of Puerto Rico.
