Richard Marcinko built his career by going where others would not and breaking rules the Navy considered untouchable. After earning a fearsome reputation as a SEAL officer in Vietnam, Marcinko became involved in the aftermath of the disastrous Iranian hostage rescue attempt, an experience that helped convince the Pentagon it needed permanent forces dedicated to counterterrorism. The Navy then gave Marcinko the opportunity to build one from scratch: SEAL Team 6.
