(3 minute clip) Evanston Reparations: A Timeline to Consider! On April 4, 2024, the Evanston Reparations Committee celebrated transferring $17 million to Liberty Bank in Park Forest for reparations. Nearly a year later, on March 6, 2025, they announced a pause in disbursements to remaining recipients, citing a lack of cannabis tax revenue from Evanston’s two dispensaries.

Council Member Krissie Harris stated they don’t feel comfortable continuing payments or reopening the application process.

$17 million was allocated for reparations. Now disbursements have stopped. What changed?
