Hi, I'm Matt at Etrailer, and today we are going to be talking about the Leer hard trifold tonneau cover on the back for a 2017 Chevrolet Colorado. Now the main two reasons why I like a tonneau cover is one, it usually gives your truck a really nice look to it. And two, it protects your gear, your items from the elements. And with a hard tonneau cover like I have right here, one, (Adam pounding on cover) it's really tough so no one can come over here, cut right in here, so it even protects it from would-be thieves. Now, another thing I like about this specific tonneau cover is this one actually folds up against our cab. So all you have to do that is, press this button here, pull that trigger, it folds up.
Now, why I like that, especially for this truck is 'cause this gives us max bed space. So on a shorter bed like I have right now, that does make a really big difference. All I have to do is make sure I hold this up with these little arms, and there we have it. But it is important that you also use our fit guide 'cause you can get this in a lot of different variations for different trucks. So make sure you put in your vehicle's information into our fit guide and we'll get the right one for you.
But with it in this position, it is gonna block your back window, so, it really depends on what you're doing with your truck. So, if you have something in the back of your bed and you need a close eye on it, you can probably just keep this in the lower position. Right now, this is only going to be taking up just about four inches of your bed space, so there's still plenty there. If you had this down, it's going to take up more around 20 inches, so, try to plan accordingly if that item is still gonna fit in the back bed or not. Now for this space underneath here, we are gonna be looking at roughly, 20 and a half inches, so, if you have any types of totes and boxes, that's usually going to be fine.
So I unfolded it just a little bit so we can see what it's going to look like, like this. And the added height it gives your bed is gonna be about an inch. For a hard tonneau cover, that's pretty standard. What makes this one look a little bit smoother on the back of your truck is this has a little bit of a bevel there, so, it's not as abrupt as some other ones out there. Now I do wanna show off, what it's gonna look like in this position like this.
If you decide to keep it down, you will have some buckles to also use and make sure that top doesn't go anywhere on you. And this does a good job at keeping the elements out. We are going to have some pretty sturdy weather seals that go across the tonneau cover itself. That same design is actually underneath our rails as well. And speaking to these rails, if you look at the other side, you're gonna notice something that I like is there's just gonna be brackets that hold this into place, so we won't have them do any modification or any drilling. It's actually a really easy install. That pretty much does it. Now I just talked about the install a little bit, which is actually really easy. Most people can do this at home, maybe in just a couple hours. Now, if you don't have the time to do something like that or the patience, you can actually use our installer locator to help find someone near you who can put it on for you. Now, if you wanna see how we handled it, I can show you that now. All right, so the first step we wanna do is making sure we grab our rail. Now they're gonna have specific sides to them. Our goal here is to make sure that this ball here is on the cab side. You also wanna make sure, that it looks like this. We have this flat side, and this little bit of a lip here. That lip is going to rest, on our truck bed rail, just like that. I'm gonna slide this as far back as possible so it makes contact with that bulkhead. There's also a good point to also talk about. If you have a truck that's pretty dirty on the very top, I would recommend cleaning that up just so you don't have any gunk underneath there that impedes this installation. Once we're there, we're gonna grab our hardware, and what I'll usually do is put my side against this rail to hold it in place. And you can start with the center, or the one next to your cab, but what we're gonna do is undo this bolt, and that's gonna remove, these two sides, just like tha
