Hi, I'm Daniel with etrailer, and today we're going to take a look at the Blue Ox Avail non-binding tow bar and how it interacts with our 2026 Ford Bronco. This is one of Blue Ox's best tow bars. Right off the bat, it has a total capacity of 10,000 pounds, and that's going to be more than enough to handle our Bronco here. And even though it has a capacity of 10,000 pounds, this is actually super lightweight. So if you're detaching this and taking this out of the hitch multiple times, this is the one to go with. It's super light.
Now, one of the things I really like about this, other than the non-binding that I'll talk about a little bit later, is that it has this cover right here. This goes over the sliding mechanism, so it's really nice. Water's not going to get in here. Grit and grime from the roads are not going to get in here and jam this up. It's going to keep it nice and lasting a long time.
I actually have another version of this. This is an older version that a neighbor had. As you can see, they've had this for quite many years and the rubber on this is perfectly fine. This whole thing works just like it should still. And for the non-binding feature, this is really nice because some tow bars don't have it.
You don't want to go with those because when you tow this big, heavy Bronco all day, these are going to lock up on you. So when you want to unhook, you want it to be nice and seamless so you can go out and have fun. So you just push this lever, you'll hear a click and that will unlock this. So now it's super easy to unhook. You just pull that pin right out, do that to the other side, and you're good to go.
And to get this reattached, you just want to line this up, put your pin in place, get our snap ring, and you're good to go. Now these adapters, they will fit of course with your Blue Ox base plates as well as your Curt base plates. One nice thing that Blue Ox included in this kit is your safety cables. And these have really heavy duty clevis styles on the ends here and they are coiled so they can stretch pretty long. And even with our setup, we had a six inch rise on our high-low adapter. These are definitely still long enough and they'll work perfectly fine. And if you're wanting to store this away, just want to disconnect it. So rotate up and then you can lean this to either side. And I would recommend getting a tow bar cover so you can put this over if you're planning on keeping this back here just so rain and the elements can't get in here just so this lasts a lot longer. Something else I would recommend is getting a locking hitch pin. So whatever you have in your hitch, someone can't come and take. As you know, this is a big investment so you don't want someone come and steal it from you. Ford Broncos are super popular flat towable vehicles and I'll go over the five main components you're going to need in order to get your flat tow setup started. We're going to start here at the vehicle. It's going to be our base plate. We're going to have your tow bar, you're going to have your braking system, your safety cables, and your diode wiring. Some of the things I recommend for the Bronco specifically is going to be a charge line kit. This isn't required, but it's really nice to have because it'll give you a trickle charge while you're traveling down the road so you don't ride to the campsite with your towed vehicle's battery dead. Now the other thing is going to be a stoplight switch kit and that's going to be for some of your braking systems in order for you to determine if this is breaking behind your motor home while you're driving.
