Adventure!, my "mostly" text adventure game, needed a way to store the details for the game. The locations, objects, non-player characters, etc. Without a database of sorts, the game would be hard coded. I wanted to avoid this and include an editor for creating your own games.
One solution is to use a Database Management Systems (DBMS). Data management solutions have been around nearly as long as computers have been. There's even a #HyperCard XCMD for a relational database management system. We're going to look at a very simple flat-file database I've created in HyperCard.
We'll go over the file structure for the database and some of the code that supports creating, retrieving, updating, and deleting data (CRUD).
Thank you to my patrons!
