Ever wondered how someone is exonerated after 28 years in prison? Innocence Projects are doing an insane amount of work to make that happen.
Today with Louise, Director of The Innocence Project London, we talk about what they do for the wrongfully convicted.
Dr Louise Hewitt has many accolades but the one that stands out to me is the pro bono work she’s been doing for over 13 years at the Innocence Project London (IPL).
We go over:
// Claiming back your innocence and why it’s such a lengthy process?
// Are the requirements to get your case reviewed fair or not?
// Various types of wrongful convictions: Joint enterprise liability & mistaken eyewitness identification.
// How good storytelling from a prosecutor can sway a jury against you.
// How does she know if her clients are genuinely innocent and not just playing her?
// Is anyone more vulnerable to be wrongfully convicted?
// The look of innocence: our misconceptions and ideas. Are there parameters in place to combat bias in the justice system?
// Different categories of prison.
// Even when exonerated, can you ever remove the stain - Is that injustice ever made right again?
// What to do if you’re arrested for a crime you didn’t do.
// The lack of legal aid funding and how she keeps going.
// The empathy for the individuals in prison as being part of our society.
// The ripple effect of the innocence project.
// Could a world without IPL ever exist?
// The future of IPL.
// Being pardoned and wanting your name back.
Mentioned in the episode: Maria Konnikova (journalist) & John Huffington (exonerated)
This is an episode that is very important to me, what the Innocence Project London does is not easy but very important work that requires tenacity and support. I hope this episode will go some way in giving them support.

![[Revisit Ep 86] When Self-Help Goes Horribly Wrong and How To Prevent It. Feat. Ginny and Jean Brown
While TO4TS is on a break, check out this revisit of a past favourite episode (#086 When Self-Help Goes Horribly Wrong and How To Prevent It). I will return early 2023 with Season 4!!!
What led to the death of 3 individuals seeking to better their life and looking for enlightenment at a James Arthur Ray 5-day event?
Ray was made famous by the movie The Secret and being featured several times on the Oprah Winfrey show.
Together with Kirby Brown’s mother Ginny, a licensed clinical social worker and her sister Jean, we discuss the perfect storm that led to that tragedy, their mission to stop it from ever happening to anyone else and how self-help can be done safely.
We cover:
+ How strong minded people can fall victim to the self-help industry.
+ Tools and dirty tactics used by the self-help industry.
+ What may have contributed to James Ray’s situation.
+ How to not collapse after grief.
+ The legal system is not yet equipped to advocate for the families of [Self-help gone wrong] victims.
+ How to find self-help organisations that have pledged to do no harm and signed [The Promise].
+ What has changed for them in how they perceive life after Kirby’s passing.

![#117: Rebuilding trust after infidelity with Dr Shawn Haywood
Can love, commitment, and vulnerability turn a broken relationship into an even healthier one? Working through infidelity can be one of the most challenging trials for couples. In this episode, we tackle the intricate process of helping couples recover and rebuild trust after an affair. We discuss the importance of having one dedicated therapist guide the entire healing journey, rather than multiple individual therapists, and how this approach leads to more successful and quicker recoveries.
Dr. Shawn Haywood, returning guest, shares valuable insights into the common reasons for infidelity, the importance of vulnerability, and how emotional safety creates a foundation for rebuilding relationships. We dive into the critical 30-60 day period after discovery, methods to handle the initial shock, and strategies for effectively communicating feelings of hurt and disappointment.
We emphasize that healing requires addressing individual traumas and fostering genuine connections. Shawn provides actionable steps and the four-step model to handle any conflict with love and without anger.
