Royal Malaysian Air Force chief General Tan Sri Muhamad Norazlan Aris returned to the cockpit today to lead the National Day flypast over Putrajaya.

Flying under the callsign “Giro”, Norazlan piloted a Sukhoi Su-30MKM for the second consecutive year.

He led a formation of four Su-30MKMs, four F/A-18D Hornets and two BAE Systems Hawks for Malaysia’s 69th National Day celebrations.

Norazlan said he was proud and excited to fly again, but stressed that it was also his responsibility to defend the country.

He said Malaysia’s airspace must remain secure through high readiness, capable assets and well-trained personnel.

Norazlan also urged young pilots to keep improving their skills, master new technologies and never become complacent.
