A woman in her 20s was injured after concrete debris fell from a heritage building in Lebuh China while crowds were gathering for the Hungry Ghost Festival last night.

It is understood that a connecting cable attached to the building's wall became dislodged, causing part of the structure at a corner of the building to detach and fall onto the victim.

The woman sustained injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

A check at the scene found Penang Island City Council (MBPP) personnel clearing debris from the area and putting up safety tape.

On Aug 4, media reports highlighted a similar incident involving rocks and timber that fell from a beam on the first floor of a heritage building along Lebuh Armenian, injuring two Sri Lankan tourists.
