When I set out to start this exploration I genuinely didn't know where I would end up. As I began to find answers within the madness of this incredibly simple, yet paradoxically complex device, I left with more questions than answers.
Here are 4 of the answers I've found. Pairing Hors d'Oeuvre? with the Zvex Instant Lofi Junky, Mythos Argonaut, Gamechanger Audio Plasma Pedal & Digitech Whammy all reveal new features, quirks and sonic territory that these pedals may not reveal on the surface.
At first pass you may assume that feedback loopers are only useful for esoteric sound design and chaotic oscillation, but there are so many utilitarian functions that make this the perfect studio tool.
One consistent theme in my exploration was adding a mix function to pedals that lack it. In the case of the Argonaut and the Whammy, their harsh sounds are their charm but also their downfall. Adding a blend of the dry signal brings back the organic beautiful underlying tone that is so essential to creating texture and beautiful sounds that you would actually want to put on a production.
