May 15 is Endangered Species Day! Today, we are highlighting a few of the endangered species you can see at Clearwater Marine Aquarium and raising awareness for the importance of protecting their wild counterparts.
First, we're excited to introduce you to Skipper, an Umbrella Cockatoo. These highly social birds are native to Indonesia, where they face deforestation and illegal trade. Skipper is a great ambassador for his species and seems to love greeting guests of CMA.
We’re also highlighting our Kemp’s ridley sea turtles, Max and Rob. Kemp's ridelys are among the world's most critically endangered sea turtles due to poaching, accidental capture, habitat loss. Max and Rob both sustained life-altering injuries before being rescued and receive permanent, specialized care by our team.
