This Endangered Species Day, we are celebrating the release of an endangered juvenile green sea turtle named Acacia! Unfortunately, all six species of sea turtles found in the U.S. are listed as threatened or endangered and continue to face many threats from human activity, including boat strikes, entanglements and other impacts from marine debris. During Acacia's rehabilitation, the turtle defecated a piece of plastic, likely a plastic bag, that they had ingested. This is an important reminder to reduce plastic waste and dispose of items to ensure they do not affect our wildlife. Luckily, Acacia had a quick recovery after being rescued on May 3 and was cleared for release by our veterinarian and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission yesterday!
