I had completed End of the Rope before, but this was Rodney and Kamesh’s first time experiencing this incredible Sedona canyoneering route.
The adventure took us through Hartwell Canyon, into a beautiful sandstone slot and alcove, and down a series of rappels culminating in the route’s signature 220-foot overhanging rappel. Knowing what was ahead didn’t make it any less impressive, but watching Rodney and Kamesh experience it for the first time made this trip especially memorable.
End of the Rope is rated 4A II, with 5 rappels and a hanging re-belay on the final rappel.
We replaced the webbing on the optional 3rd rappel.
The area also contains ancient ruins. Please admire them respectfully, leave everything undisturbed, and help preserve this special place.
The “Pocket Fire” had been burning since the night before and was at 0% containment.
