Yes. This was 20 years ago to the day, the Channel 4 "Simpsons Night" that launched "The Simpsons" onto the network also being that. Feel free to turn to dust if you must, folks, I understand.
Depending on the quality of the initial new capture I did of these, it may be a bit until I give all the uploads I've done of the Channel 4 "Simpsons Night" the same nice treatment I've been giving many lately as thanks to me getting back to digitizing with fancier equipment, but if nothing else? Have this as an acknowledgement of the date significance and a teaser for these updated uploads happening soon. ;)
This happened to be the first thing on the tape all this stuff was on and...I forgot just how completely jank and "well-meaning but awkward family Facebook post aimed at you"-y this was. Hope the editor who had to quickly sweat the last section was paid okay, no way they weren't sweated for this nonsense. Anyhoo, have a nice November the 5th whatever you're doing! If from the UK, stay safe if you're going out for fireworks. If you're from America, please for god's sake vote if you're registered and vote Blue or anybody who's not anti-Blue, ack ack ack. o~o;;;

This will be the beginning of something different Ill do now. Ill do a lot less seperate uploads of breaks in-between these shows and etch them all into one big upload each, starting with this. Which is cobbled together from breaks of a Robson Green TV movie that Ive hardly ever heard about called Rhinoceros, which was taped over for a documentary from BBC One not too long after this was aired.

This has so many layers of silly in it that its insane...how ridiculously game the builders are for BACON, the comedic concequences of their bacon distractions, the managers amazing screaming at the end, the hinting that they did NO work and spent the next 8 or so hours of their shift just talking on and on over bacon before finally having some...this is incredible. Point to you, Walls. Point to you.)

After some random show that I had no idea what was about because most of the show was recorded over and before what seemed like the Channel 4 premiere of the 1994 film adaptation of Little Women.

So...erf...digitising this perticular VHS started with excitement on seeing what the actual final broadcast TV recording we did before we got a DVD recorder had after nearly 20 years...and it ended with me feeling weirdly depressed. Even as someone who was a kid for the first half of the decade (though at this point, I had been 13 for less than 5 months), I have complicated feelings with the 2000s. It wasnt without moments of joy and fun in my life, of course, but...I mean, after That Point in 2001, things just...it was rough being raised with media and culture that was leaning towards stuff that was so positive and pro-empathy and then somehow two buildings fall down and peoples ability to not be Monsterously Awful People suddenly just feel right the heck down.
And this is an interesting thing to have ended up being the last VHS tape we recorded off broadcast TV as our way of taking stuff that was on TV and preserving it for later turned out to proberbly be some of the worst-aged stuff we possibly couldve recorded from that time period. This first part isnt as bad as the second, to which I had to actually put a disclaimer at the start (look forward to that, I guess??!), but there are definite points where the unnecessary crudeness and lame-at-best boisterous laddish were the domineering things rather than the exceptions. There are still people out there like this and there are still corners of media thatre almost like nothing had changed, but I really dont miss it. Some of the stuff in these ad breaks are pretty bad, but what doesnt help is the show surrounding them neither. At best, it had some nice introductions to some legit good-looking sketch comedy shows but in the era of Bo Selecta and Little Britain ruling mainstream media to a putridly grotty fault...well, yeah...you dont need to watch the show btw, an ableist Little Britain sketch won the countdown. Screw this gross, brown soul-sludge that sent society back a decade or two...or three.
