Testing Portal RTX on my Ryzen 3500u laptop with 8gb of soldered ram. It has a Vega 8 integrated GPU and was released in 2019. I'm using the RADV ray tracing emulation feature available for AMD GPUs running the AMDGPU driver. I have a video from 2 months ago covering this, I'm just testing it out on my laptop.
I'm running Fedora 42 with the latest CachyOS kernal. I'm also running the latest development build of Mesa, which is Mesa 25.2.0. Also using a Proton 10, to be specific CachyosProton 10. Using the x86v3 version, with the ThinLTO kernal, which improves performance.
RADV_PERFTEST=emulate_rt VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr11 %command%
In this quick test video I test Portal RTX and then later Cyberpunk 2077 using all the ray tracing features enabled. This is in effect software RT.
You must install at least Mesa 23.2 and explicitly enable the feature via the "RADV_PERFTEST=emulate_rt" environment variable in the Steam launch arguments placed before "%command%". This version of Mesa was first shipped in Fedora 39 released in 2023.
On Mesa 25.1 and later releases, emulated RT is automatically enabled by default for all GFX8–GFX10 GPUs (RX 480 and newer.) No environment variable is needed on those architectures. This version of Mesa is not shipped by default on major distros yet, but it is expected to be a part of Fedora 43 coming in late 2025. After this all AMD GPUs starting from Polaris and newer should have the ability to launch games like Indiana Jones and The Great Circle and Doom The Dark Ages without any additional configuration or launch arguments. Effectively giving these GTX 1060 class GPUs access to hardware ray tracing features at acceptable frame rates and resolutions in many modern games requiring ray tracing.

![Doom Eternal (Nekravol) [GTX 1060 6GB][i5 4690k@4.4ghz][Windows]
Minor spoilers for the Nekravol level. I cant quite get a locked 60 with my setup, even with the settings lowered. So I play this game with a 50fps cap on a mix of low/higher settings. This game looks great regardless so low still looks quite good. With all that, it runs great! There is an added stutter from my recording software, which is not present in gameplay.
