Abstract: Establishing robust tools within the enterprise environment goes beyond the implementation of programming best practices. It is true that unit tests form a crucial foundation for developing reliable applications. However, responding to a C-level executive's query about a testing report demands more than sharing a link to the Github Actions and the 'testthat' folder.
Applications constructed with Shiny to address essential corporate processes must adhere to a comprehensive quality assurance process. This necessitates a diligent approach to designing the entire testing and documentation architecture, aiming for both usefulness for the development team and clarity for business stakeholders.
It's important to note that software development differs significantly from the assembly line. Quality assurance should not be relegated to a final step, limited to navigating the 'happy path' and accepting changes. In an enterprise setting, quality assurance serves as a proactive approach to mitigate project-wide risks, including not only code quality but also addressing vulnerabilities such as data validation, API dependencies, performance, scalability, and business logic. Crucially, the entire ongoing quality-check process should be automated, allowing time and attention to be directed towards expanding quality assurance for new features and additional projects.
In this talk, I'll cover strategies for smoothly integrating quality into daily workflows and operating at a higher level in software development.
