Only a few months after closing the deal on his dream business- a restaurant in Panini Bay, New Jersey, Ivar Johnson's dream became a nightmare. His restaurant was nearly washed away. He held to his dream and took action to elevate the restaurant a total of 14 feet above current ground level: 11 feet for the Advisory Base Flood Elevation and an additional three feet of “freeboard” to incorporate a margin of safety. The restaurant is open again, and based on the adaptation measures, Ivar hopes to remain open through future storms.
