In the first week of September 2022, a corridor of southerly winds emerged between an area of high surface pressure over southeastern Greenland and an area of low pressure to the west. Warm air from lower latitudes triggered a large late-season melt spike on the ice sheet. This animation shows mean sea level pressure (purple is low pressure, yellow and gray are high pressure) and surface winds on September 3.
