Elephant's Foot is another one of those tracks I started with some rough ideas and then set on the backburner for a long time. Around the middle of developing Forlorn, I went thru a phase where I was workshopping a ton of MIDIs, trying to figure out where the project was going to go. This was one of those.
When I started working on Map 9, Drilling Rig, I was skimming my folder of MIDI fragments I'd collected and came back to this one. I believe all I had was the intro with the metal pads, so during development of the map this underwent most of its composition. This is another case where they kind of go hand in hand together. There's this almost revelatory aspect to the midi, like some realization is rising to the surface, with the usual tension and apprehensive atmosphere that underpins the rest of the wad. I think this quality lends itself well to the exploratory and open-ended nature of the map. This is probably one of my favorites from the whole OST.
