So yeah - starting this upload series with the MIDI for Forlorn's 3rd map, which I feel is the first melodically interesting track in the mapset (the first two are simpler and very much ambience).
I've actually been sitting on this track for almost two years now - Forlorn is a project that has had a long on and off development cycle, started primarily as a means to take a break from larger stuff (ie Bitter Dream). My initial concept was "I want more Abscission, so I guess I need to make it" and I think that's fairly evident in the project - but Map 3 is where I started to feel like it was taking on a life of its own a bit. That includes this MIDI.
While I opted for a simple and paired back, but sinister song for Map 1, and an industrial and atonal track for Map 2, I wanted something a bit more emotional and grand for Map 3. I can't remember the exact order of the genesis of the map and MIDI, but I can distinctly say that, as per usual, they sort of informed each other through the process. The sort of grand melancholy of the MIDI I think reflects the cold, but massive scope of the map's setting - these large battery towers (or whatever your imagination suggests they are) flashing hopelessly beyond where the eye can see, speaks to a forgotten infrastructure that now stands as a monument to a fallen humanity.
