This is a track I wrote specifically for Portraits of Doom by Peccatum Mihzamiz. His initial ask was for the track to have a recognizable sound to it, but that it wasn't too crazy nor too chill as might befit a map 1 song. The track went through many iterations as I worked on it, with Pecca serving as an effective producer by providing a lot of feedback and suggestions along the way.
The track I arrived at has a building progression that is hopefully laced with some vibes of eagerness and perhaps apprehension as would be befitting the start of a journey. The energy picks up at a point in the song I hoped would line up with when the player is likely to start fighting monsters, before settling into a more mellow part for when the actions cools off again. I enjoyed writing the square lead solo at the end of the song, and could have easily written 2-3x more if I wasn't worried about it being self-indulgent and detrimental to the listenability of the song.
