The old (broken, and sadly irreparable) piano is gone, and a new one has arrived. The new piano is a really, (like really, really) good instrument so there's absolutely no reason to be sad about the new instrument, but the broken piano represented 20 years of personal history, so I wrote a small elegy...

According to one website, the F# minor key is characterized as "A gloomy key: it tugs at passion as a dog biting a dress. Resentment and discontent are its language." I didn't actively think of the key while making the music but the description kind of fits the purpose of the music :)
Played live on my new Kawai NV-10 in pianist mode, classic sound with bright1 hammer voicing. The action is a real Kawai grand piano action, and therefore it enables very accurate creation of colors and chord voicings, but at the same time it will mercilessly highlight any sloppy playing (that's a good thing.... in the long term :-) ). Listening back to my first take was a bit of an eye opener in that respect, but this one already sounds a bit better - not perfect by any standard but ok. By looking at the movie, I now notice I hold some notes in the left hand which are not supposed to be held. I wasn't even aware I did that until I visualized the midi information in the piano keyboard animation. The voicing of the dissonant chords is not entirely what I wanted it to be either... but at least now I know what to pay attention to in this piece :)
