8-day seed germination of Egyptian spinach (also known as Molokhia), scientific name Corchorus olitorius. I floated the seed in water on an agar bed. The casing swelled within hours and broke open on day 1. It's known to develop a strong central root before the leaves emerge. Fun fact: Egyptian spinach isn't a true spinach. Rather, it's in the same family (Malvaceae) as hibiscus and okra. I particularly love the jade color of these seeds.
