In this video, I am making a contemporary version of a Dutch tradition called 'nationale feestrok' or 'bevrijdingsrok'. These were originally made to celebrate May 5th, the Dutch holiday that commemorates end of the second world war 75 years ago. When a Dutch museum organised a competition to make a modern version of this skirt with a nod to the current pandemic, I decided to participate. Anticipating liberation from our lockdown, this is my take on the liberation skirt.
