This video captures Ebony’s serene water freebirth alongside her partner, where she trusts her body to gently and calmly bring her baby into the world. After her previous homebirth with a licensed midwife ended in a transfer, Ebony chose to reclaim her birth experience with simplicity and grace.

“The complete guide to freebirth felt like my own journey to becoming my own midwife, I felt by the end of it so confident going into birth.”
Ebony @iam.ebonyrose - Western Australia

“I woke up at 5am after a night of tossing and turning with period-like cramping, after weeks of prodromal labour sensations I wondered why the sensations didn’t go away after lying down.. at 8am I started timing & sure enough they where 10 minutes apart lasting for a minute each time.

I walked around our backyard, visioning our kids growing up on this land, creating their childhood. I stopped to feel every sensation of every contraction, smiling and thinking of how grateful I am to be in this very moment. It started to rain, I stood in the rain & knew today was the day we would meet our baby.

It was approaching 12, and contractions were now 3 minutes apart. I felt that I needed Izzy’s presence home, within minutes he pulled into the driveway. As soon as I heard him, I felt a big sensation drop, my waters burst. Izzy walked in the front door at that very moment.. it was like my body knew it could let go.

Just after 1pm I got into the pool.. the pool temperature so perfectly warm enough to provide such a beautiful pressure off my body. I hung over the side of the pool and got some rest as my contractions subsided slightly, giving me a moment to recharge.

I feel my body push for the first time, my body jolted & let out a quiet roar. I couldn’t believe it was so soon, I knew this was a crucial point for me to stay out of it, for my mind to take a step back and completely allow my body to push out this baby out its own time.

I tilted my pelvis under and leaned back as the next contraction came my body pushing her whole body out, with intent for her to come out to the front of my body, I looked down and grabbed her knowing there is no rush to lift her from the water. I looked over her, checking the cords where abouts, ready to manoeuvre if necessary. I gently lifted her out of the water and onto my chest, knowing within that she’s perfectly fine. I closed my eyes and held onto this moment, letting out a big release of emotions, sitting in gratitude & love.

Izzy and I both sobbed together, embracing the stillness. He asked me what he would like me to do, I asked him to get Ziggy. Chey took the initiative to pop outside telling our best friend Narita to bring Ziggy in, I at this point didn’t know they were home.. within minutes Ziggy came in, she got into the pool where we then looked to find she was her little sister.

Sage latched herself straight on the boob, I knew it was time to get everyone out the room so we could prepare for the placenta to be born.

Naf came over a few hours later to teach us how to measure the baby, guiding us to feel confident in doing it on our own next time. She confirmed the placenta was fully intact & explained the blood clotting. I had fears of needing another transfer, so it was so amazing to hear everything was ok and that I just needed to rest.”
