One of the grimdark tropes, a part of the aesthetic, is unquestionably wires. Copper, brass, steel- they come in different sizes and gauges, from hardware stores or old electronics.
Really cool thing you can do with them to create rope-like wire is twisting several smaller ones together. Doing that with bare hands is tough though, so it helps having tools to securely grab them, like a hobby drilling bit and pliers.
